Some helpful hints when preparing your CV:
- The purpose of a CV is to persuade the employer that you should be interviewed.
- Start with a brief summary of your skills and attributes relevant to the vacancy you are applying for.
- It is important that a CV is targeted to the job you are applying for, keep it relevant and concise.
- Include brief details of highest education or qualifications, a brief work history including dates, job titles, duties and reasons for leaving – it is not necessary to go back further than 10 years. Also include a brief summary of “other” skills.
A cover letter is the first impression an employer will have of you:
- Tell them what you have to offer the organisation as well as why you want this position.
- Ensure it is accurately addressed to the correct person
- Make sure that your contact details are clear, remember to sign the letter.
- Keep it brief, no more than a page
- Remember to check spelling and grammar
Interviews:
- Research the company
- Know what you put in your CV
- Think about what questions you may be asked
- Be prepared to discuss your strengths, weaknesses and personality
- Prepare questions to ask them
- Stay calm & be yourself
